Abstract :
This paper briefly describes Wayland, an industrial application of case-based reasoning in the aluminium diecasting industry. Wayland assists the foundry engineer in the setting of parameters of a pressure die-casting machine for new dies. Wayland has been installed at a foundry for more than two years, and responsibility for maintenance of the program has been handed over to foundry staff. Wayland is in daily use by engineers, die designers and sales staff. It provides access to the experience of pressure die casting accumulated by the foundry over many years.
