Abstract :
Vegetation plays an important part in the carbon, water, and energy exchange at the land surface. Vegetation cover fraction is one of the most important variables in land surface modeling. HJ-1 satellites (Environment and Disaster monitoring and forecasting Satellite constellation) are advanced in revisit frequency and image coverage. It improves the abilities in monitoring vegetation dynamics from regional to global scales. Many researchers have been carried out on disaster reduction and environmental monitoring. In this paper, we focused on green vegetation cover fraction, a rigorous geometric and radiometric pre-processing ensures the necessary accuracy of HJ-1 CCD data. Then, a linear spectral mixture model and a NDVI-based model were conducted to produce vegetation fraction images. Based on the resulting map, the spatial patterns of vegetation cover are explained. In general, this study provides some important evidences that HJ-1 CCD data are suitable for monitoring vegetation cover fraction.
