Abstract
This paper evaluates the advantage of opportunistic beamforming for a mobile station (MS) remaining stationary at the cell edge of a packet cellular system. It was confirmed that the base station (BS) throughput performance with the proposed algorithm including an additional phase speed fluctuation function showed more significant improvement than that with the conventional algorithm. Furthermore, it is confirmed that the increase in the element space improves the BS throughput performance, especially when the MS azimuth space is narrow
