Abstract :
Millimetrewave systems are becoming increasingly important in many scientific, civil, and military applications because they can provide wider bandwidth for transmitting large amount of data and better resolution in radar systems. However their history goes back to the early days of wireless communications. In this paper we will look at the early millimetrewave experiments of Bose through current/potential mass-market products utilising the frequency band, to new technologies such as active integrated antennas on silicon and 3D bandgap superstrate lenses that could contribute to exploiting this valuable part of the radio spectrum.
