Abstract
We describe the first demonstration of a 4 GHz quadrature-modulated, wireless system featuring a purpose-designed, ultra-wideband coaxial leaky feeder with vestigial axial-slot coupling. Here we show experimentally that multi-GHz bandwidth is possible with a single size aperture. With the use of Microstripes software (Flomerics), we show that these slots behave as antenna arrays, enhancing radiation characteristics for our purpose. In conjunction with wide bandwidth patch antennas 1.6 Gb/s total data throughput was obtained with error-free, end-to-end operation.
