Abstract :
A low-profile planar dual-meander-line antenna for GSM/DCS/PCS/UMTS/WLAN multi-band mobile handset has been proposed and implemented. With the inclusion of a 9-mm distance from the ground plane in practical applications, the proposed antenna has a low profile of 20 mm only (less than 6% of the wavelength at 900 MHz). The obtained impedance bandwidths are 120 MHz (about 13.2%) and 924 MHz (about 44.4%), which fully cover the required bandwidths of the GSM/DCS/PCS/UMTS/WLAN bands (890-960/1710-1880/1850-1990/1920-2170 /2400-2484 MHz). The measured antenna radiation patterns are approximately omni-directional across the above operating bands. Peak antenna gains for operating frequencies across the triple bands are measured to be, respectively, 1.8 dBi and 2.9 dBi with the gain variations of 0.5 dBi for the multi operating bands
