Abstract :
This paper deals with the approach for improving the availability of the Ku (14/12 GHz) band fixed satellite service (FSS) system by using the time-delayed diversity (TDD) system. The Ku-band FSS systems are utilized in many applications, however, signal degradation or attenuation effects due to rain attenuations are severe problems. To overcome those problems, there are many approaches. The TDD system for Ku-band FSS system is one of the new approach. The BER (bit error rate) characteristics between two earth-stations (distance is about 800 km) have been measured for three years. By using measured data, the TDD characteristics are calculated by Excel Software. By introducing the Ku-band TDD system, unavailability time can be rapidly improved with delay time tau=15~30 min. By assuming the delay time tau equals two hours, the unavailability time can be improved about 1/2
