Abstract :
Knowledge of the spatial orientation of a dye in crystals is useful for investigation of the mechanisms of dye incorporation into a crystal and for creation of dye solid state lasers. It can be obtained by establishing anisotropy of the crystals´ optical properties using polarization optical spectroscopy and luminescence methods. The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of xylenol orange dye incorporation into KDP crystals on anisotropy of their optical absorption and luminescence. The changes in the emission spectra and polarization of the emitted light are investigated for the case when the polarization plane of the exciting light is rotated about x, y, z crystal axes. It is observed that dichroic behavior of the transmission coefficient in different growth sectors of the crystals is different. The orientation of the transition dipole moment of the dye molecule is found for each growth sector.
