Abstract :
The paper presents a UML-centred approach to knowledge management in a large software development organization. In past years, the software development strategy of our organization has migrated from structured to object oriented technology. Therefore, we have defined a generic process framework, which can be adapted to different project types. Originally, the framework focused on “what to do"” in object oriented software development by concentrating on the necessary activities and resulting work products. The paper illustrates how the framework and the metamodel behind it have been extended in order to address the question of “how to do it”" as well. Best practices known from several projects or documented in the literature have been collected and prepared in a uniform manner. The presented toolkit of techniques covers several subprocesses and helps developers to facilitate the transition to object oriented development
