Abstract :
This paper focuses on the study of the academies from the Tang to the Qing dynasty in the Ganpo area based on Geographic Information System (GIS), including collecting the data, designing spatial and temporal logic of academies, building the corresponding spatial database, and analyzing based on the database. By using the standard deviation and mean center spatial analyses, it indicates that at the spatial-temporal aspect, the academies hotspot moved from north to south, also had an extension trend from eastern area to inner western area. The central area made an important role in the academies´ development due to its advantages in the geographical condition. And the whole coverage of the academies in this area increased from the Tang dynasty to the Qing dynasty. The comparison to the existent studies shows that the spatial analysis based on the spatial database is feasible.
