Abstract :
This paper presents the results of experimental design of transceiver units for mm-wave radio-relay communication systems. Due to the demands of increased communication systems capacity, the mm-waveband has become widely used because of its bandwidth, good performance in poor meteorological conditions (rain, snow, dust and fog), interference immunity and small overall dimensions and weight. At present mm-wave communication equipment and facilities are in the development stage all over the world. In order to demonstrate the completeness of mm-wave technology, 38-94 GHz transceiver units for communication systems designed by Research Institute Orion, Kyiv, are described. Specialists from Research Institute Orion developed the following advanced communication equipment using proper solid-state components (S.P. Rakitin et al, 10th Int. Conf. Microwave and Telecom. Tech., pp. 33-36, 2000): transceiver units for mm-wave radio-relay stations (RRS) with high-speed data transmission; transceiver units for mm-wave radio-relay systems of high quality video-data transmission (reporting systems).
