Abstract
Wireless Sensors Network (WSN) together with an efficient delivery of information can provide important benefits to society. However, this technology is still in its early stage. The smart transducer concept, defined by the IEEE 1451 standard and combined with embedded operating systems like TinyOS, can simplify the design and management of WSNs. This work integrates the capabilities of TinyOS and the IEEE1451 standard, proposing a new framework for the design of WSNs. In the proposed approach, the hardware abstraction layer and the network management are carried out by the TinyOS, while the IEEE1451 standard performs the middleware task. The design and implementation of an environmental sensor network is presented as a case example.
