Abstract :
The number of information sources being offered to today´s drivers is increasing rapidly. In-car hi-fis with increasing features are now being joined by car phones in a rising proportion of vehicles. Next to appear will be navigation, collision avoidance, and traffic information systems. The impact of the resulting increase in information upon driver performance must be carefully monitored in order to ensure that such an influx of information systems is beneficial in terms of traffic safety and driving performance. The authors outline a generic evaluation method for the assessment of in-vehicle applications. The model is supported by a database of methods
