Abstract :
This e paper presents a review of the architecture and main features provided for the Host Identity Protocol (HIP) introduced by the IETF to separate the address from the location of a node. We propose a set of different performance evaluations realized on a testbed assembled with the infraHIP implementation. Based on the evaluations and partly inspired in the specifications of IETF RFC4068 and RFC4988, the paper provides a proposal to improve the micro mobility of a device between different points of attachments based on the usage of the Host Identity Protocol and mainly in the early update process of the locator parameter, which allow mobile nodes to reduce handover times and improve the redirection of HIP sessions.
