Abstract :
Work is continuing within the Television Data Systems Subcommittee (TDSS) of the Electronic Industries Association (EIA) to develop a closed-captioning system for inclusion into an advanced television signal. The working group´s efforts are partially funded by the US Department of Education and the EIA. This paper provides a background of the work and a status of the progress. The goals of the Working Group include designing the overall architecture of the ATV captioning system, establishing the features, its display protocol, and the instruction set of computer commands which will trigger each display feature
