  • Abstract
Recently, video transmission services over networks are getting very popular thanks to the development of network infrastructure. From the viewpoint of efficient network bandwidth utilization, multicast is a key technology that provides high QoS services. However, it is very difficult to obtain high QoS for each individual user since the requirement and environment of each user is so different due to the heterogeneity of current network and terminals. Hence we propose a transcoder controlling scheme that enable each user to obtain high QoS by utilizing transcoders. We assume that transcoder functionality will be installed over routers in the future next generation network, and hence, our proposed scheme is based on the network. The proposed scheme manipulates multicast trees and transcoders in the network. Moreover, the proposed scheme minimizes the deterioration of video streams caused by transcoding procedures by limiting the number of transcoding. Even more, the proposed scheme does not cause any extra delay by manipulating multicast tree. Finally, simulation experiments evaluate the proposed scheme from the viewpoint of network bandwidth consumption and clarify the efficiency and the effectiveness of the proposed scheme
