Abstract :
This paper derives the optimum receiver for co-channel demodulation of digital signals in the presence of intersymbol interference (ISI). A truncated T-spaced MLSE (T-MLSE) receiver is also derived along with its path metric in iterated form and evaluated under a wide variety of receiver structures, channels, and transmission types. The results show that the truncated MLSE receiver has excellent interference canceling capability. Finally, we propose a more practical T/2-spaced MLSE receiver for comparison with the T-MLSE receiver
