  • Abstract
A new single energy recovery circuit (ERC) only connected to one of scan and sustain electrodes of the plasma display panel (PDP) is proposed. Different from prior ERC having the same two drivers on both electrodes of the PDP, the proposed circuit composed of one inductor and two power switches is only located on one of both electrodes of the PDP and recovers the energy of the panel without excessive voltage stress of sustaining inverter. So its size and cost can be greatly reduced. Moreover, it can fully change the panel voltage between -VS and VS with asymmetric energy recovery operation and ensure the stable and uniform light emission from the PDP without voltage drop caused by the large discharge current during the transition time of the sustaining pulse
