  • Abstract
Because a construction project is being larger in size and complicated in structure, to be a successful construction project, various information technologies should be used for the project management through life-cycle. The representative IT tools are RFID/USN (Radio Frequency IDentification/Ubiquitous Sensor Network) and BIM (Building Information Modeling) system. BIM is that the construction information through the life-cycle of a construction project, including design, construction and maintenance phases, is managed by 3D objects. AR (Augmented Reality) can be used in the construction project as one of BIM item. AR technology can be used to establish a real-life construction model by overlaying virtual object data against the actual background of a project site on a computer. This study proposes a methodology of applying the AR technology to a construction project and a prototype system to test applicability of the AR technology in rebar construction work. Application of the AR technology to construction processes may enhance workability as it displays missing design elements compared to the initial drawings.
