A New Scheme for Impulse Detection in Switching Median Filters for Image Filtering

As the performance of the filtering system depends upon the accuracy of the noise detection scheme, in this paper we present a new scheme for impulse noise detection based on the local contents of the selected spatial window. In the proposed scheme we also use a noise estimator to decide the number of iterations during the first pass of the filtering. The efficacy of the proposed filter has been confirmed by extensive simulations.
