Abstract
A new concept of boundary control of PFCs is presented in this paper. Instead of the state plane, a state-energy plane is used to derive the switching surface for dictating the switching instants. The converter has good output regulation, as well as good dynamic behaviors. The converter can revert to the steady state in two switching actions during the external disturbances. Parametric variation of the component is compensated automatically. Of particular importance, the controller is applicable for the PFC operating in continuous conduction mode, critical conduction mode, and discontinuous conduction mode. Theoretical predictions are verified with the experimental results of a 1 kW prototype
