Abstract
The operational effects and experience are described of introducing switched mode power supplies, the BT Rectifier No. 160, within British Telecom over the first five years. The cultural and operational problems that occurred and their solutions are explained, as well as the changes necessary with regard to repairs, spares, and buffer stock holdings in order to meet the overall reliability requirements of the power system.<>
