Abstract :
It is challenging and daunting task to back track denial of service (DoS)/ distributed denial of service attacks that exploit spoofing of source address. Very few systems have been suggested for tracing the single packet and moreover these schemes use logging for the purpose. In this paper, we present a scheme called modulo technique for interface marking (MTIM) which employs the use of modulo division for marking. We have found that this method almost eliminates the need for logging. We evaluate and present the effectiveness of the scheme using performance metrics.
