Abstract :
Reliable measurement is required in all manufacturing and service industries. International trade needs all measuring instruments throughout the world to be based on a compatible system of measurement. The author shows how calibrations should be traceable to national standards and looks at different levels of measurement. The author also discusses how quality standards have influenced the demand for calibration and how this is being dealt with at the present time and in the future, much of which is by computerised techniques
