Abstract :
The planned introduction of land mobile satellite services to Australia in 1992 has posed several technological problems, not least of which is the design of a suitable mobile terminal antenna. Many solutions have been proposed but the technically best designs ignore the cost limitations set by comparable mobile telephone services. The authors propose a cost-effective system design that uses space diversity. This allows a simple antenna to be used by recovering part of the margin required in the link power budget for multipath and shadowing losses
