Abstract :
Random early detection (RED), an active queue management scheme, has been proposed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to improve the throughput of TCP/IP based networks in the next generation routers. RED has a number of problems such as low throughput, large delay/jitter and inducing instability in networks. Previous enhancements to RED attempted to improve the performance of RED by modifying the parameters of RED. However such modifications result in limited improvement. We propose a new active queue management scheme which achieves a higher throughput than RED and retains all the advantages of RED. Results show that our proposed scheme results in better performance than RED in terms of throughput and delay
