Abstract :
The author develops several differing paradigms of congestion control for a frame relay bearer service. These variations are the results of differing requirements from the participating vendors. Frame relay bearer services (FRBS) do not separate flow control and congestion control. Congestion management encompasses both a co-operative protocol to attempt to avoid congestion and, as required, recovery from congestion when it occurs. The ANSI T1S1 standards committees have dealt with a very broad range of requirements. Rather than eliminate requirements, the standards committees chose to provide options, with negotiation at a call establishment, to allow a broad range of capabilities. This provides migration capability for existing functions in both public and private data networks
