The tapered fiber microlens (TFM) enhances efficient coupling between the elliptical Gaussian pattern laser diode and single-mode fiber. The hyperbolic-end microlens has much higher coupling efficiency than the hemispherical-end microlen due to efficient mode matching and phase matching.
