Experience gained from IMS based Fixed Mobile Converged (FMC) network deployment

The present paper describes practical experience gained with IMS based fixed mobile convergence (FMC) network deployment at TDC Denmark. The paper also takes a look into the near future, showing trend in technology. This network deployment, including the FMC component, is a joint project between TDC Denmark and Ericsson. The FMC implementation offers advanced services to enterprise users. Enterprise users may have a SIP phone, a GSM phone or both. Users may have multiple public user identities under which they may be reached or under which they may establish a call. IMS is ideally suited for FMC, due to its access network independence, its multi subscriber numbering and multi device support. The manner in which FMC is realized in IMS further facilitates that evolution towards advanced access related features such as voice call continuity and Session continuity. Previous presentation at ION provided architecture for IMS multi-access. The present paper gives feedback from the field, showing how said architecture is practically deployed and operated for enterprise subscribers.
