Abstract
This paper discusses common telecommunications requirements found in the rapid transit industry as well as various telecommunications technologies and how they might be integrated into an enterprise network to support the varied requirements for data, voice and video communications. The technologies discussed include fiber optics, digital radio systems, asynchronous transfer mode switching, telephone switching and video surveillance The telecommunications technologies discussed are primarily emerging, but serve as a guide for evolution of enterprise networks supporting rapid transit into the 21st century
