Abstract :
This paper addresses DCS 1800 handset performances in the cellular coverage in suburban and urban environments. Three different handset antenna types are tested: 3/8λ whip, helical (helix) and a patch antenna. The investigations are conducted in terms of handset antenna mean effective gain (MEG) parameter relative to a reference antenna disclosing the effects of the environment, of the proximity of a simulated human head and of the actual handset antenna orientation
