Abstract :
Permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) are the most popular motors being used as traction motors in the electric drive-train due to their high torque-per-ampere characteristics and potential for wide flux-weakening operation to extend the constant power range. This paper classifies and overviews the state-of-the-art flux-weakening control strategies for PMSMs. The advantages and disadvantages of each approach are discussed. The benefits of this research work are to lay down a foundation for future improvements, and help researchers choose the appropriate flux-weakening control algorithm for traction application.
