Abstract
A new linear induction drive is presented and analysed. The drive is used as traction unit as well as battery charger on-board of electrical vehicles intended for specific service typologies. The presence of a wound secondary and of a long stator gives the linear induction motor drive the potentiality to be adopted as traction motor and battery recharger on board. This opportunity can be exploited by means of a suitable power converter on-board that allows the regulation of both speed and battery current. The analysis of such converter in different operating conditions linked with the wound secondary of the linear motor is presented and some particular cases are discussed
