Abstract :
Summary form only given. The presentation will review the global FTTH deployments and will provide recent data on the global penetration rates. The main focus will be on the impact that FTTH has on a) new services adoption, b) the backbone metro/core networks, c) quality: quality of service/quality of experience/quality of life. Techno-economic issues related to the cost-optimization of the FTTH roll-outs will be highlighted while it will be also discussed how FTTH will bring out socio-economic benefits and will help to reduce the carbon emissions thus assisting to realize a more ecological future.
