Abstract :
This paper presents a new call admission control (CAC) and mobility management technique for micro/picocellular systems which are designed to interwork with an ATM backbone infrastructure. Evaluation of the area which a mobile terminal can actually reach before the end of the established call, and load balancing among the system cells are the main features which drive the decision to admit a new call into the system. The reported performance evaluation results show the behaviour of the proposed CAC mechanism when different values of mobile terminal parameters (speed, hand-off rate), call attributes (mean call duration) and traffic characteristics (QoS requirements) are considered
