Abstract
Based on the phase plane analysis a new variable structure control strategy without sliding model was presented for uncertain second-order single-input affine nonlinear systems. By the use of the method, system trajectory was controlled to entry a section in its phase plane, and then control switches were determined by predicting trajectory behavior such that the system state was stabilized to the origin. Since the control is not switched continuously, the chattering in conventional variable structure control methods can be avoided. The stability of closed-loop system was proved and a simulation result was given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method
