Abstract :
This paper proposes a novel, statistics based method for the prediction of the performance of an iterative receiver in conjunction with Chase combining hybrid automatic repeat-request protocol, in a single-input single-output frequency-selective channel. The method provides an estimate of the frame error rate for a given number of retransmissions, when the signal-to-noise ratio and the number of propagation paths are known. This is accomplished by analyzing the behavior of the iterative receiver through extrinsic information transfer charts. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed method reliably predicts the system performance.
