  • Abstract
Summary form only given. The author investigated whether a neural net trained with computer model generated training data can be used to solve every day, practical real-world problems that arise in engineering. A study involving a specific problem suggests that the answer is a qualified `yes´. The neural net solution worked very well within the context of the computer model, but did not perform nearly as well in the real-world system. Final training using data from the actual system may be needed for optimum performance
