Abstract
The author describes the functional attributes of a feature programming platform and its interface to the features. The feature interface isolates the core switching functions from the subscriber features. This means that the system core is not affected by the introduction of new features and the feature programmer need not be aware of changes in the system core. This allows the features to be designed without concern for feature interaction, and the system is stable-removed from hardware and access/transport technology changes. This environment provides a powerful platform for custom feature programming and rapid service previsioning. The programming environment, the feature programming platform, and the feature interface are addressed
