Abstract :
The present work reports an experimental investigation for the effect of environmental contamination on the leakage current in three different types of polymer insulating materials. Those materials are polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl-chloride (PVC) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). The materials were subjected to alternating voltage `AC´ (50 Hz) under inhomogeneous field conditions (rod-plate electrode system). The effect of surface contamination, relative humidity, applied voltage and ambient temperature on the leakage current has been discussed
