Abstract :
Modern display systems use expensive light emitting diode (LED)s, which eventually may fail or not perform as expected due to harsh weather and other environmental factors. A robotic spectrometer system is developed for measuring the output characteristics of each LED in every pixel and store them in a lookup table. This allows the system to adjust the output of each LED based on the results of the lookup table and helps to maintain the picture quality of the display. This system also allows the use of off the-shelf LEDs, whose operating characteristics are measured by the robotic spectrometer system in order to identify the optimal operating point. This system facilitates a viable method to improve existing displays, obtain better picture quality, and build displays with off-the-shelf components.
