Abstract
The authors present the results of a computer simulation study on the performance of 16-ary differentially encoded quadrature-amplitude-modulation (16-ary DEQAM) through nonlinear satellite channels, in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and adjacent-channel-interference (ACI). It is assumed that the satellite transponder is linear, and each of the Earth stations uses a newly developed solid-state power amplifier (SSPA) for high power amplification. The results are compared with those of a 16-ary DEQAM system employing a conventional travelling wave tube amplifier (TWTA). Results indicate that 16-ary DEQAM transmission for mobile satellite systems employing SSPA´s is promising
