Abstract
A state-space representation of a stand-alone alternator is developed from experimental data, and an optimal state feedback controller is designed for this system. Comparable analog and digital versions of the controller are implemented and tested on the plant, and the resulting closed-loop performance is shown to be similar. The controllers could function adequately at several different operating points, demonstrating that it is possible to use a linear model in designing highly nonlinear plant.<>
