Integrated automatic vehicle location and position reporting system

There is a positive requirement for centralised displays in the fleet operations room. The paper describes an integrated automatic vehicle location and position reporting system which fulfils this requirement. The system can be subdivided into three main sub-systems although these are integrated and interdependent: navigation, position reporting, and data gathering and display. The system philosophy pays great attention to the need to operate continuously without breaks, this is achieved by a high level of redundancy with hot standby capabilities
