Abstract :
Any unresolved geometric problem in the primary geometric representation of a design will propagate in the sequence of derived geometries in unpredictable ways, making the identification and correction of such errors extremely difficult. A geometric modeling system designed to overcome these difficulties and to achieve design for manufacture is presented. This modeling system is being developed as part of a rule-based rapid prototyping system using three- and five-axis machining centers. The system provides for integrated manufacturing rules in the beginnings of the design process, guaranteed geometric integrity of the designed part, and combined geometric representation of stock, fixtures, and part
