Experience with a modern real-time power system simulator

ABB Relays has developed a digital, computer-controlled, electronic, analog power-system simulator. The simulator is used to evaluate new protection concepts in connection with product development work by its efficient real-time simulation capability, which enables parametric testing. Moreover, it is also utilized for the type testing of prototype protection equipment and verification for various customer applications. The power system simulator has undergone extensive testing by several utilities. A brief account of the operational experience with the simulator is described
