Abstract :
The authors present a new algorithm for estimating power system frequency from the voltage samples taken at pre-selected intervals of time. The method first calculates the phase angles of the phasor representing the voltage waveform and then estimates the frequency from the phase angles. The frequency changes are tracked by a feedback technique. A Kalman filter then removes noise from the frequency measurements
