Abstract :
The design of a novel thermometer for medical applications is shown here. The system is thought to be used in special therapies as hyperthermia. The system, being optical, will not be affected by electromagnetic signals such as microwaves or electrical currents. The erbium-doped fiber with fiber Bragg gratings will generate a laser effect indicating the desired temperature has been reached. The system has high spatial resolution and is intended to be inserted in human tissue.
