Abstract :
The authors describe how transmission constraints caused by regulatory delays have been reduced by the use of special protection systems at Ontario Hydro´s largest generation complex. The role of the system control centre computers in Ontario Hydro´s evolving special protection system technology is described and the tradeoffs between risks and benefits associated with the use of special protection systems are discussed
