Variable envelope modulation techniques for personal communications

In the future UMTS system (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) one modulation technique which performs well in microcellular as well as macrocellular environments would clearly be attractive. In this paper, novel variable-envelope modulation schemes which attempt to combat the problems of current constant-envelope techniques have been examined.
